Greetings from Church of Peace 12-27-12

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Happy third day of Christmas! We have no French hens to offer you.  But we do have a joyful worship service planned for Sunday. It will feature the carols and Scripture readings of Christmas – no sermon, lots of singing and praying and smiling.  We hope you join us for this continuation of the celebration of the birth of Jesus.

Margie Kaiser was a patient at St. Agnes Hospital and has gone home.  Esther Hassman is gravely ill at the Lutheran Home.  Please remember these women in your prayers.

There will be no NEW worship service tonight.  We will resume next week.

Check out the Messenger on-line (www.uccchurchofpeace.org) or pick one up in the narthex or elevator lobby.  There are many inspirational and fun activities going on in January.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.  May your 2013 be a year blessed with hope, peace, joy, and love.  And may 2013 find Church of Peace faithfully serving as the Body of Christ in Fond du Lac.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: O God, you have been my help in the year past and I know you bring me hope for the new year.  Calm my fears about the future.  Clear my vision and help me to see my role in ushering in your reign of love and peace.  Hold Margie Kaiser and Esther Hassman close to your heart. May our congregation grow in faithfulness as the months of 2013 pass by.  I pray in the name of the Babe of Bethlehem.  Amen.

Church of Peace Thursday Greetings 12-13-12

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Joy to the World!  That’s our theme for worship this week (tonight at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 8:45 a.m.).  On Sunday, the Chapel Choir will sing and we will be receiving new members.

Immediately after worship on Sunday, there will be a brief congregational meeting to review the revisions to our constitution that the Church Council has made.

A week from today, Thursday, December 20th, a beautiful and soothing service will be held in our candle-lit sanctuary: the Service of Remembrance and Hope.  Join us at 7:00 for a time of Scripture, music, and prayer.  Originally designed for people with a sad heart, the service has been found to bring hope to all of us. There will be a social hour afterwards.

December 23rd is a week from this coming Sunday. On that day, the Sunday School program will be held at 10:15 a.m. after the Advent Sunday of Love worship service. That afternoon at 5:00, we will meet at the church for pizza and caroling trip around town on a bus.  You can sign up for the caroling on the bulletin board in the coatroom, reply to this email, or call the church office (921-8215).  It is a free event.

Which Christmas Eve service are you planning to attend?

The 4:00 service is designed with children in mind.  Mary and Joseph and the baby Jesus will make an appearance.  Inge Adelmeyer and Pastor Jim will provide anthems. We will sing child-friendly Christmas carols.  Holy Communion will be celebrated.  All worshippers are invited to bring a bell to help us ring in the holy-day of Christmas.

The 7:00 and 11:00 services are very similar to one another.  They will feature the sharing of the light of Christ (candles held by all).  Holy Communion will be served.  Special music will be provided at each service by TJ Schultz and Pastor Jim.  The Chapel Choir will sing at 11:00. This year, a highlight of the hour will be stunning pictures that will bring awe to our Christmas worship.

Plan to make your Christmas holy by worshipping with us.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today:  How am I doing, God?  Am I growing in hope, peace, joy, and love this Advent as I prepare for the coming of Christ at Christmas?  Bless me with perseverance and patience as I seek to become more Christ-like.  Place before me opportunities to help others feel your love.  I pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace - December 6, 2012

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Prepare!”  That’s the message John the Baptist will share with us tonight (6:30) and Sunday morning (8:45) at our worship services.  On Sunday, the youth choir will sing and little Elin Poirer will be baptized. The Ryan family will light the candle of peace. Come see the sanctuary transformed week-by-week in its Advent splendor.

We are getting our church building spruced up for Christmas. Tomorrow evening and Saturday, we’ll be painting the hallway.  It is a very looonnnnggg hall, so we can use as many painters as possible. Just show up with a brush or roller in hand – we’ll provide the paint and the smiles.

This Saturday morning, the Worship Enhancement Team will be gathering at 9:00 and the Shawl Ministers at 9:30.   Sunday night, the new members group will be gathering with the pastors and some council members for an orientation meeting.

This Sunday will be the last day to order poinsettias.

Looking ahead:
Sunday, December 16th    Congregational Meeting after worship

Sunday, December 23rd     Caroling Party from 5-8

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: As I prepare for the celebration of Christmas, don’t let me neglect to prepare my spirit, O God.  In all of the hubbub around the holidays, I do not want to forget that a pure and receptive heart is the greatest gift I can bring to you. Lead me to those who need love; show me ways to bring hope and peace into the world.  Amen.

Thanksgiving Eve

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Happy Day-Before-Thanksgiving! Come tonight at 7:00 p.m. for a worship service designed to help us express our gratitude for all of our blessings.  The sanctuary will be lovely, the message heart-warming, and the Spirit present with us.  Plus the Worship Enhancement Team has prepared a gift for each worshipper.

There will be no NEW worship this Thursday because it is Thanksgiving Day.  We’ll resume next Thursday.

On Saturday at 9:00, the Council could use some help.  We have some yard work to finish up before winter strikes.  Could you come and work for a while?  Please bring a rake.

Sunday’s service will be a joyful celebration of the love and forgiveness offered by our compassionate God.  The Chapel Choir will sing.  We’ll gather at 8:45.

A member of our church family has died.  Robert Warner’s service will be held on Friday. Please pray that God’s comfort will be with his family.

Watch your mailbox for a copy of the proposed revisions to the Constitution of Church of Peace.  There will be a meeting on December 16th to vote on the proposed changes.

The December newsletter will be available in the narthex on Sunday and on the website later today.  While you are on the website (www.uccchurchofpeace.org), check out the newly-enhanced picture section.  Thanks to Halie Hackbarth for bringing this up-to-date.

We’ll see you in church.  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: I have so much to be grateful for, O Generous One.  Thank you.  Bless all who gather tomorrow; turn their hearts toward you.  Please be with the family of Robert Warner as they mourn his death. May the spirit of gratitude remain in my heart not just during this holiday but always.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace!

If you like children, you’ll love Sunday’s service.  The youngest Sunday School classes will sing and little Audyn Zupke will be baptized.  Our Scripture reading is about the end times (should we believe the Mayan calendar?). Be a part of a service that is not only full of joy but faith-building as well.

Tonight’s NEW worship will also focus on Jesus’ words about catastrophic events and the end of history.  Join us at 6:30 for this casual style worship that brings us closer to God.

Ken Thome is a patient at Froedtert Hospital and is expected to return home late this week.  Please pray that his return to health and strength will be swift and complete.

A week from today is Thanksgiving.  The evening before, on Wednesday, November 21st, we will be gathering at 7:00 p.m. to acknowledge God’s generosity in our lives. The service will feature Holy Communion as well as lovely slides on the screen.  Don’t miss this opportunity to fill your heart with gratitude and to express your thanks.

The Church Council has been busy revising the Church of Peace Constitution.  Watch your mailbox for a copy of the proposed revised document.  There will be a congregational meeting on Sunday, December 16th, to vote on the proposed changes.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: Use me today, O God.  Use me to bring cheer, to convey encouragement, to be an agent of goodness in the world.  Let your light shine through me.  Fill me with your peace as I face any challenges. I pray that your healing love will bring Ken Thome to health and strength soon and that all your children will have warm shelter on this chilly day.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 11/08/12

Greetings from Church of Peace!

God keeps promises.  God is utterly dependable.  On these truths our lives and faith depend.  What about us?  Do we keep our promises to God? Can God depend on us? Join us Sunday for our Consecration Sunday worship celebration.  The Rev. Dr. Gary Miller will preach.  The Youth Choir will sing.  Each of us will have an opportunity to recommit ourselves to the service of Christ. Worship will begin at 8:45 a.m. and will be followed by an enhanced social hour hosted by the Stewardship Ministry Team.

Tonight’s NEW worship service will begin at 6:30.  In a casual, conversational setting we will celebrate God’s presence and renew our commitment to discipleship.

Donna Trapp is a patient at St. Agnes Hospital.  Please hold Donna in prayer.

Next Tuesday Golden Fellowship will feature a European River Boat Tour, presented by Dianna and David Candlish.  Escape from the burdens of your daily life and let their slides and words carry you to the lovely lands across the sea.  We’ll begin at 11:00.  Lunch will be served.

Looking ahead:  Thanksgiving Eve’s worship service will feature Holy Communion, a story sermon, images on the big screen, and a delightful surprise from the Worship Enhancement Team.  Plan now to take time to express your gratefulness to our very generous God at 7:00 on Wednesday, November 21st.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: O Divine Promise-Keeper, how grateful I am for your presence in my life.  Open my heart to your love, my mind to your wisdom, my soul to your peace.  As I go about my day, constantly remind me that I represent Christ to the world.  I pray that Donna Trapp will experience your healing power in her life.  Offering myself to you as your servant, I pray in Christ’s name.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace - All Saints' Day 2012

Greetings from Church of Peace!

It is All Saints’ Day, a day when we pause to give thanks for those Christians who have gone before us, living lives of faith and service.  What people in your life have been shining stars for your faith, beacons leading you to be a more devoted disciple of Jesus?  Give thanks for those people today.

On Sunday, the sermon will be a chancel drama. We will pause to remember the members of our congregation who have died in the past year.  The Chapel Choir will sing.  It will be a poignant and sparking service.

Tonight at 6:30 p.m. our NEW worship will feature a lively conversation about matters of day-to-day faithful living.  Come join in this relaxed and meaningful service.

Peggy Lee is a patient at St. Agnes Hospital.  Please pray for God’s healing light to shine upon her.

It is our turn to serve Loaves and Fishes next Wednesday.  We can always use donations of food, money, and time.  Thank you!

Greetings from Church of Peace - October 18, 2012

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Fond du Lac Police Chief William Lamb will be with us in worship on Sunday to share a Mission Moment.  The service draws its focus from Psalm 91, a Biblical song rich in advice on how to handle fear and danger.   The Chapel Choir will sing an anthem based on the 23rd Psalm.  Join us for an hour of worship which will ease our fears and build our faith.

Tonight’s NEW Thursday night worship service will begin at 6:30 in the Upper Room.  We will be talking about trusting God in times of peril or anxiety.

Mary Lange is now recuperating at St. Francis Home.  Please pray that she will have a speedy and full recovery.

John Langolf died last Saturday.  His funeral was yesterday. Remember his family when you pray.

It is bazaar week! Set up begins Saturday at 8:00, continues after Sunday School, and will be going on all day Monday.  Bring your “goodies” to the church Sunday or Monday and plan to come back on Tuesday to help, shop, and eat. With everyone’s support, we can make this the best bazaar ever!

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: On this chilly and blustery day, I thank you for the warm place in which I live and the warm feeling in my soul that comes from thinking of you.  Show me how to best serve you today.  I pray for Mary Lange and for the family of John Langolf.  And I ask that you bless our bazaar so Church of Peace may serve as a gracious host and as a good example of Christian hospitality while we raise money to support your work near and far.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace

Greetings from Church of Peace,

“How beautiful!”  “It is gorgeous.”  This is what you will say when you enter the sanctuary on Sunday and see our altar adorned for Harvest Home Sunday. Fruits, vegetables and other produce will combine to proclaim God’s generous abundance. Join us at 8:45 a.m. Sunday for this festival of blessings. The youth choir will sing.

If you have produce, fall flowers, or home-canned goods to contribute to the Harvest Home display, please bring them to the church before Saturday morning. Write your name on them so you can have them back!

NEW Worship is tonight at 6:30 p.m.  We will gather to worship and learn together about the seeds which God sows in our hearts and lives.  We meet in the Upper Room.

Mary Lange is still hospitalized in Madison and expects to return to Fond du Lac soon for long-term rehab. Del Luttenberger died Tuesday evening. Please remember Mary Lange and the Luttenberger family when you pray.

HELP! The building committee wants to spruce up the narthex/lobby area before the bazaar.  They will be painting this Saturday morning beginning at 8:00. Can you help?  Even a couple of hours of your time would be a significant gift to the church.  Thank you!

Sunday afternoon is the CROP Walk.  We meet at 12:45 on Oven Island at Lakeside Park.  The walk will take about an hour.  It helps the hungry here and far away.  Sign-up sheets are available at the church.

There will be a hayride for the confirmands and senior highs this Sunday night.  Meet at the church at 5:45 to ride together to Milton Scott’s farm.  What fun you will have! The cost is $3.00.  You can bring a friend.  Permission slips are required for everyone.

A prayer for today: Your heart is so beautiful, O God, to create all the loveliness which I see this autumn season.  Your heart is so generous, dear Lord, to share all of the abundant bounty which I receive.  Bless me as I try to show my gratitude by the way that I live today. Mary Lange and the Luttenberger family are in need of your healing touch; I know that you are with them in this difficult time. Thank you!  I pray these things with deep love and with gratitude.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace - July 26, 2012

Greetings from Church of Peace!

We’ll be gathering in our nicely-cooled sanctuary on Sunday morning at 8:45 for a service that is joyful and renewing.  Please join us as we learn how to be “strengthened in our inner being” and “rooted and grounded in love.” Little Amelia Puddy will be baptized.

We know of no one who has been hospitalized in the past week.  Julie Rose has entered hospice care.  Please lift up Julie and her loved ones when you pray.

Next Monday night we have planned a picnic at Lakeside Park near the Shirley Cutler field.  The picnic is a potluck and is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. At 7:00 p.m. our Church of Peace softball team will play a game.  Weather is a concern; we may have to cancel if it is too hot or raining. Call the church office (921-8215) on Monday if you need an update.

Next Tuesday it is going to be waaaay too hot for a garden party.  So we pastors have moved the Golden Fellowship party to Rolling Meadows Family Restaurant.  We’ll meet there at 11:30 for a Dutch treat lunch (we will pay everyone’s tip).  This is a disappointment to us; we’ll try again next summer.

The Messenger will not be available this week because Jackie is on vacation.  Look for it early next week on line and in paper form.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today:  O God, your gentle strength holds me safely from day to day; for this I give you thanks and praise.  Please help me to relax and enjoy this wonderful life you have given to me.  Show me how holy joy can flow through me into this world which needs it so much.  I ask your special blessing upon Julie Rose and her loved ones; may they feel your nearness and peace in this difficult time.  I pray in the name of Jesus.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace - July 18, 2012

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Do you ever become angry?  Do you handle your anger in a healthy manner?  This Sunday’s Scripture reading deals with handling our emotions in a Christ-like way.  Come and enjoy our air-conditioned atmosphere and our spirit of warm affection.  Little Jacob Olesen will be baptized.  Worship begins at 8:45.  Social hour will be provided by the Visitation Ministers.

While we were on vacation the past couple of weeks, two members of our congregation died: Florence Peters and Tommy Knecht.  We pray that their families will be aware of the tender comfort of God. Four people have been in the hospital: Virgil Kraemer (who has gone home), Julie Rose (transferred to St. Francis Home), Elaine Schabel (at Mercy Hospital), and Shirley Hanke (at St. Agnes). Please remember them in your prayers.  We extend our heartfelt thanks to Rev. Jerry Schrankler who took care of our flock while we’ve been on vacation.

Coming up:
            July 30th: picnic and softball game;
            July 31st: Golden Fellowship;

A prayer for today: O God, as nature refreshed the earth with rain last night, please refresh my soul with the sweet whisper of your breath of life.  Enliven my faith and fill me with joy in you.  Please bless all in difficult circumstances this day with a heightened sense of your nearness, especially Virgil Kraemer, Julie Rose, Elaine Schabel, Shirley Hanke, and the families of Florence Peters and Tommy Knecht. Make me an instrument of your peace.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace - June 21, 2012

Greetings from Church of Peace!

After seeing the destruction in Joplin, we mission trippers became newly impressed with how dangerous a storm can be.  The disciples were no strangers to severe storms; in this week’s Scripture reading, they find themselves in the middle of a life-threatening tempest on Lake Galilee.  Join us Sunday at 8:45 a.m. to hear the remarkable ending to this Biblical story and to learn what God offers to us as we deal with all kinds of storms in our lives.  Little Alex Petersen will be baptized.

All church members and friends are invited to the Diner’s Club at Sebatian’s Supper Club at 5:30 this coming Sunday evening.  The cost (including tip and tax) will be $20.00 per person. This is a fun – and delicious – way to get to know some members of your church family.

Golden Fellowship meets at 11:00 a.m. this coming Tuesday for a rousing game of Yatzee and a picnic lunch inside.  You can sign up in the narthex.

July’s Messenger will be available on line after noon on Friday or can be picked up Sunday in the narthex.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church.  Pastors Jenny and Jim

Greetings from Church of Peace - May 24, 2012

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Red, red, red with a little orange and some yellow -- this is what you can expect to see when you enter the sanctuary on Sunday.  It is Pentecost, the day the Holy Spirit descended like tongues of fire on the early disciples.  Join us as we invite the Holy Spirit to renew our power and zeal.  You are invited to wear the colors of the day to add to the festive atmosphere.  The Hospitality Team will be serving ice cream following the service.

Tonight is the final meeting of the season for Mid Week Faith Boost.  We'll be meeting at 6:30 in the Upper Room.

We know of no one who is hospitalized or critically ill in our congregation.

There is still time to sign up for the day trip next Tuesday to the Railroad Museum and the Botanical Gardens in Green Bay.  Call the church office (921-8215) or sign up on Sunday.

Although Sunday School is finished for the season, we look forward to enjoying the presence of our little ones in worship. At Church of Peace, every week is child-friendly worship.

The June Messenger is now on-line at www.uccchurchofpeace.org.  There’s lots going on in June so be sure to download your copy and keep up to date.

The church office will be closed on Monday for the Memorial Day holiday.

That's the news from Church of Peace.

We'll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today:  Lovely Spirit of creation, on these beautiful summery days as you warm me with the rays of the sun, warm also the inner workings of my spirit with your love.  Make joy and compassion grow within me until it overflows into my words and deeds.  Show me how to live with gentleness and peace as I work to bring healing and wholeness to my relationships and to our world.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace!

What a glorious morning Sunday will be!  The anthem will be provided by a chorus made up of the Chapel Choir, the Sonshine Singers, and our Sunday School kids.  Seven students will be confirmed.  Please join us for this festive hour.  There will be plenty of room for you!

This Saturday, May 19th, we’ll gather about 8:00 a.m. and work in the church yard for a few hours, sprucing it up for the spring and summer season.  If you’d rather work inside, there is work to be done there as well.  We’ll have a good time together. Rumor has it that anyone still here when the work is done can go up on top of the steeple and have a look around. There will be donuts!

Mid-Week Faith Boost meets tonight at 6:30 to sing, pray, and discuss the Scripture reading for this coming Sunday.

Joann Krenn died Tuesday evening.  Please remember her family in your prayers. We know of no one who is hospitalized.

A prayer for today: Ever-Creating God, I stand in wonder and joy before your creation.  The spring flowers, colorful birds, and newly-leaved trees testify to your beauty and power.  May my life also testify to your beauty and power as I treat everyone I meet today with kindness and respect.  I pray for your comforting touch in the lives of all who grieve today, especially the family of Joann Krenn. Speak to me of your will and your loving ways.  Amen.

Dorothy Eggers is in the hospital and Joann Krenn is nearing the end of her life at the Hospice Home of Hope.  Please remember these women in your prayers.

On Saturday, May 19th, there will be a “work morning” at the church.  If it is nice out, we will be working outside.  If it is raining, we will work inside.  Either way, our church property will be improved by these efforts.  Please help out from 8:00 – noon (or part of that time).  Interested adults can go up on top of the steeple at the end of the morning.

Please sign up a.s.a.p. if you plan to go on the Golden Fellowship–sponsored trip to the train museum and the Green Bay Botanical Gardens.  The trip is on Tuesday, May 29th.  The sign-up sheet is in the narthex.  The price is $20.00.

That’s the news from Church of Peace!

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: What a beautiful day on which to sing your praises in my heart, O God! Thank you.  And thank you for many opportunities to bless others as you are blessing me.  Please make your comforting presence keenly aware to Dorothy Eggers and Joann Krenn during this difficult time.  I pray these things in your Spirit of Love, known in Jesus.  Amen.
