Greetings from Church of Peace 04/27/17

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Is there turmoil in your life? Could you use a hefty dose of inner peace? If so, this Sunday’s worship service is just what the spiritual doctor ordered for your soul.  Join us at 8:45 for a time of joy and renewal.

Jim Stephany is in the hospital.  Please remember him when you pray.

Today’s the last day to drop off your oldies-but-goodies for the Ladies of Peace rummage sale.  And don’t forget your baked goods for the bake sale. We’ll be open for business tomorrow (Friday) from 8-4 and then Saturday from 8-2.  You’ll be amazed at all the bargains they’ve assembled. Thank you to all who donated or worked thus far.

Do you like to paint walls?  We’ve got the walls and the paint.  The “Peaceful Painters” will be at work Saturday from 8:00 – 3:00 and again on Sunday from 11:00 to 3:00, both this weekend and next.  Please stop in and help if you can.  “Many hands make light work.”  Besides, it’ll be fun!

We expect the May Messenger to be on line by Friday noon (www.uccchurchofpeace.org) and to be available at the church this weekend.  It is chuck full of news.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church! Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: So much is going on in my life, O God, that I am tempted to forget you.  Slow me down enough to feel your presence and appreciate your many blessings. Fill me with your peace. Be with Jim Stephany, giving him health and strength. Amen.

Holy Week Greetings from Church of Peace

Greetings from Church of Peace for this Holy Week!

Here are the highlights:

*Maundy Thursday’s service tomorrow is at 7:00 p.m.  It features a reenactment of the Last Supper with Jesus and the disciples around the table.  All of us will share with them in the Lord’s Supper.  This is deeply inspirational; you are encouraged to invite a friend to join you in this worship experience.

*Good Friday’s service is also at 7:00 p.m. A chancel drama of four people has been prepared for this night.  Pastor Jim will provide special music.  Join us for this solemn remembrance of the death of Jesus.

*Easter services are at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. These festive services will be complete with a trumpeter and special music – the choir at 8:00 and Inge Adelmeyer at 10:00.  The front of our sanctuary will be lovely in its garden finery.  Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate the resurrection of Christ. Between services a social hour will be hosted by the middle-school youth.

Our thanks to the many people of Church of Peace who are working together to provide these varied and meaningful worship experiences.

When you pray, please remember Randy Stafford and Malita Patchett who are in the hospital. Funeral services for Bettye Baker will be held tomorrow.  May God’s peace rest upon her family and friends.

Please sign up for Golden Fellowship.  The program will feature Tom Strauss’ duck carvings and the story of Norbert’s courageous escape from Cuba on a raft.  The date is Tuesday, April 25th.

You can bring in rummage for the Ladies of Peace sale any morning.  The sale will be Friday and Saturday, April 28th and 29th. Help in setting up during the week of the sale will be most appreciated.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: As I travel through this Holy Week with Jesus, I pray, O God, that you will fill me with a new love for my Savior.  Show me how to express that love in compassion and kindness toward all people. Bless Randy Stafford, Malita Patchett, and the family of Bettye Baker with your healing peace.  And give to all who participate in the Holy Week services deep meaning and a sense of your nearness and love.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 04-05-17

Lenten Greetings from Church of Peace!

Tonight is the final service in our Lenten series this year.  Come join us at 7:00 p.m. for this time of rest and spiritual renewal.  We will light the Lenten candles of perseverance and servanthood. We will dedicate our One Great Hour of Sharing offering.  Please give generously to this important ministry which supports emergency relief and on-going development projects in the poorest areas of the world.

Interested in helping with the Gammert Hall reconstruction?  Come tomorrow (Thursday) night at 6:30 p.m. for a tour.  You can sign up to help with a variety of projects.  By the way, they’ve roughed in the rooms – they are spacious places for our children to grow in faith.

HOLY WEEK SCHEDULE

Palm Sunday (this Sunday) -  Worship at 8:45 a.m. The choir will sing. The sanctuary will be transformed with palms.

Maundy Thursday (April 13th) – Reenactment of the Last Supper by 17 members of the congregation. This portrayal of the Last Supper is profoundly moving. Holy Communion will be served in the pews.  Worship begins at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Good Friday (April 14th) – Join us at 7:00 p.m. on Good Friday for a commemorative service remembering Jesus’ trial and death. A chancel drama will highlight the service.

Easter (April 16th) – We will celebrate the resurrection of Christ at 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. A trumpeter and special music will add to the festive atmosphere. Come see the “garden of victory” as we worship together. Our youth will host a fund-raising social hour between services.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

A prayer for today: How blessed I am, O God, to know of your love! I pray that you will walk with me throughout my day today, showing me evidence of your power and compassion.  I long to be a faithful disciple of Jesus.  Amen.
