Greetings from Church of Peace 10-27-16

Greetings from Church of Peace,

A Ritual of Remembrance for our members who have died in the past year highlights our Reformation Sunday worship this Sunday at 8:45 a.m. The Sunday School children will sing.  There will be a story sermon.

On Saturday, Church of Peace will host the funeral of Rev. Gary Miller, friend of our congregation who served as a guest preacher here and who played the trumpet for our Easter services.

Construction news: We’re not sure what they are doing today but it certainly is loud! (All a part of the adventure.) They have made great progress on brickwork in the front of the building as well as in dry walling the interior.  Our old bathrooms are being transformed into pantries. Preparation work is continuing on the new stairway from the narthex to the sanctuary.

The November Messenger is available in the narthex and on-line at www.uccchurchofpeace.org.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in worship! Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: The chilly autumn weather brings with it the reminder of my need for your warm love in all aspects of my life, O God.  Please help me to experience your nearness today.  Show me ways to serve you in Christ’s name.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 10-20-16

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Remember the song about the “wee little man” who sat in the tree? The story of Zacchaeus is the focus of this Sunday’s Scripture reading and sermon. Join us for this hour of renewal and spiritual invigoration.  We’ll begin at 8:45 a.m.

This week’s construction news: all exterior doors are now installed, brickwork continues, and narthex sheetrock started yesterday. The new bathroom and water fountain are fully functional.

The confirmation retreat is this Friday night and Saturday.  Please pray for our youth and their leaders as they grow in faith together.

Regretfully, we have had to cancel the Fall Festival Dinner.  We have returned by mail all checks that we received. If you paid in cash, please get your refund by calling the church office (921-8215) or talk to Pastor Jenny on Sunday.

October 30th is the Sunday closest to All Saints’ Day.  On that day we will honor those of our congregation who have died during the past year.

That’s the news from Church of Peace!

We’ll see you in church! Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: Thank you, God, for this day with its promises of many blessings.  I pray that you will open the eyes of my heart to the ways you touch my life with kindness today.  Show me how I can reflect your love to everyone I meet. Bless our youth and their leaders on the confirmation retreat that they may grow in faith, love, and friendship. Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 10-13-16

Greetings from Church of Peace,

Have you ever met a Samaritan?  Come on Sunday and find out about these people with whom Jesus interacted.  We’ll learn a good lesson for our own lives.  The service begins at 8:45 a.m.

There is sadness in our church family this week.  Dylan Beilke, 24-year-old son of Ray and Juli Beilke, died on Monday.  Joe Shea, husband of Holly Shea, died on Sunday.  Please remember these families in your prayers. Please also remember Bettye Baker who has been hospitalized.

Do you enjoy an evening with friends?  Then join us on Sunday, October 23rd for a Fall Festival Dinner at the KC Hall.  We’ll share appetizers and a delicious catered meal with dessert; a short program will follow. Tickets are on sale at the church office and will be available before and after worship on Sunday.  They are $20.00 a piece; a cash bar will be available.

This Saturday is the first COP fall workday.  Come at 8:00 with your rake-in-hand.  Thank you!

Construction news: This week, the workers have been continuing to hang dry wall and to install insulation in the attic and walls. The stone work on the Military Road side starts today. They are making an opening into the sanctuary for the new staircase. The bathroom in Gammert will be usable early next week.
That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: Gracious God of love, I pray for your blessing of comfort and peace upon all who grieve, especially the Beilke and Shea families. Bless Bettye Baker with your healing strength.  And please bless me with whatever I need to live faithfully today.  I pray in the name of Jesus.  Amen.
