Join us in our cozy sanctuary on Sunday morning for a heart-warming service.  We will celebrate Holy Communion.  The Chapel Choir will sing.  Come be warmed by God’s Word and God’s people.

This Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday.  It is also Souper Bowl Sunday.  Please remember to bring in a generous amount of canned and boxed food for our food pantry.  Our goal is 1000 items.  Thank you!

Tonight’s NEW Worship will be held as scheduled at 6:30.  Holy Communion will be served.

The Sweetheart Dinner is coming up on February 17th.  We’ll meet at Sebastian’s Steak House for a delicious dinner and lots of laughs together.  The cost will be $20.00 per person, payable at the time.  Sign-up by February 12th on the bulletin board in the coatroom or respond to this email.

The Messenger will be available at our website (www.uccchurchofpeace.org) after noon on Friday.  It will be available at the church on Sunday.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today:  O God of Light, shine into my heart today and enlighten all the places darkened by fear or shame.  Make me glow with goodness and joy.  May I reflect your beauty in my words and actions all day.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 01-24-13

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Know anything about of Ezra and Nehemiah?  They are featured in this Sunday’s Scripture lesson.  It is an interesting story with much to teach us about faithful living in 2013. The older Sunday School kids will be singing a rollicking anthem.  Little Meadow Schendel will be baptized.  We’ll begin at 8:45 – join us!

The Chapel Choir will host the Social Hour. We’ll have time to drink a cup of coffee or juice and eat a cookie before we head back upstairs for the Annual Meeting.  It will begin at 10:00; we aren’t expecting it to be long.  We’ll be electing new leaders, passing a budget, and looking at an endowment policy. Please attend. It will be interesting and enjoyable.

NEW Worship will be held tonight at 6:30 in the Upper Room of Gammert Hall.  Can’t come this Sunday?  Join us tonight.  You’ll be glad you did.

Janet Rymer was hospitalized and has returned home. Please remember her in your prayers.

This Sunday we begin our Souper Bowl of Caring food drive.  Our goal this year is 1000 food items.  Any boxed or canned food will be welcomed thankfully. Please bring the food to the church this Sunday or next.

There are some significant changes in the church year that you’ll want to note on your calendar right away:

Tuesday, April 30th             4-7      Church of Peace Turkey Dinner

Saturday, October 26th    9-3      Church of Peace Bazaar

You’ll hear more about these upcoming events in the February Messenger which will be coming out next week (a little later than usual so we can include the information from the Annual Meeting).

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: Thank you for warming my heart on these chilly days, O God of Light and Love.  I pray for holy guidance as I go about my tasks.  I pray for heaven-sent patience and compassion as I deal with people.  I pray for a sense of divine peace within my heart. Bless Janet Rymer as she continues to heal.  I pray remembering Jesus.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 01-17-13

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Join us for worship 8:45 a.m. Sunday to have your spirits lifted and your spiritual gifts strengthened. There will be lots of lively music and deeply prayerful moments.  The Chapel Choir will provide an anthem. Social hour will be hosted by the Visitation Ministers.

At 10:00, after you’ve had a chance to get a cup of coffee, you are invited to the choir room to a budget information session.  Members of the Council will be there to answer any questions about the proposed 2013 Budget which will be voted on at the Annual Meeting of the congregation which is on January 27th.  Copies of the budget and other documents for the Annual Meeting will be available in the narthex.

Tonight we will gather to worship at 6:30 in Gammert Hall’s Upper Room.

Shirley Hanke is a patient at St. Agnes Hospital.  Please remember her when you pray.

Have you eaten a meal at the new Trinity Restaurant?  Sunday evening at 5:00 we will gather there to eat supper and enjoy one another’s company.  Sign up by calling the church office now (921-8215) or signing up on the bulletin board on Sunday.

Tuesday you are invited to a Cuban festival.  David and Diana Candlish will show slides of their recent trip to Cuba.  Our janitor, Norberto Gonzales, who emigrated from that country when he was nineteen, will share some reflections.  Jackie and Jenny are teaming up to provide some Cuban food for lunch (cross your fingers that it will turn out well!).  We’d love to see you there.  Please sign up by calling the church office now (921-8215) or signing up on the bulletin board on Sunday.

A prayer for today: Thank you, God, for being ever-present in my life.  Help me remember that you are always here, eager to provide guidance and support. Show me ways to bring good news into the lives of others.  I am grateful for your healing power; bless Shirley Hanke as she recovers from surgery.  Thank you, God.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 01-10-13

Greetings from Church of Peace!

What an enriching worship service is planned for this Sunday at Church of Peace!  The theme is “Living Water.”  The Sonshine Singers youth choir will provide an anthem.  We’ll begin at 8:45 a.m. Join us!

Tonight at 6:30 our Thursday NEW Worship will take place in the Upper Room at 6:30.

Shirley Hanke is a patient at St. Agnes Hospital. Please remember her in your prayers.

Has a little voice inside your heart been telling you that you should think about going on a mission trip?  Maybe that “little” voice is none other than the Holy Spirit.  Plan to attend the informational meeting at 6:30 Sunday evening in Gammert Hall about our upcoming trip to Appalachia. You’ll learn what you need to know to make a decision about participating this summer.

Something noteworthy is happening at Church of Peace today.  Our building is getting greener. Electricians are replacing the fluorescent bulbs which light our hallways and halls with energy-efficient ballasts and brighter bulbs.  Because of the Focus on Energy program and a contribution from an environmentally-concerned member, this is being done at no cost to the congregation.  It will significantly lower our energy bills as well as help to preserve the earth’s natural resources.

On Sunday you can pick up copies of the proposed budget for 2013, the Endowment Fund proposal, and the minutes of the last Annual Meeting.  Please peruse these before the 2013 Annual Meeting which will be held on January 27th.  Next Sunday, January 20th, after worship we will hold an informational meeting about the proposed budget.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: Merciful God, my greatest desire is to keep you in the center of my life. Keep me from being distracted by my tasks and appointments today. Show me how to live faithfully and joyfully while meeting the obligations of day-to-day life.  Bless Shirley Hanke and all who are sick with your healing touch. I pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.

A prayer for today: God of Light, shine into my heart today. Illumine within me the places which feel dark.  Brighten my spirit so that I may serve you with more zeal.  May this new year bring relief to those in pain, freedom to those who are held captive, hope to those who live in despair, and peace for your children near and far.  Amen.
