Greetings from Church of Peace 05-30-13

Greetings from Church of Peace!

It is summer and that means it often seems easier to praise God.  Somehow the sunshine lifts our spirits and brings our minds to thoughts of the One who creates and sustains us and provides all the beauty around us.  Join us at 6:30 p.m. tonight and/or at 8:45 on Sunday as we take time to express our gratitude.  Holy Communion will be celebrated at each service.

Marian Wohler is in the hospital in Fond du Lac and George Scott at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.  Please remember them when you pray.

There are several events upcoming in the life of our church family in which you can participate:

*Friday, June 14th Church of Peace Work Day at Pilgrim Center
*Tuesday, June 25th Golden Fellowship with Fond du Lac Arborist
*Sunday, June 30th Diner’s Club at Schmitty’s Oar House

Sign-up sheets are located on the bulletin boards in the coatroom -- or call the church office to sign up (921-8215).

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: Shine in my heart today, O God, and fill me with overflowing love.   Shine with healing upon George Scott and Marian Wohler.  Shine with peace upon the warring nations of the world.  Let me shine too.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 05/23/13

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Are you going away this weekend?  If so, perhaps this evening is a good time to try NEW Worship which is held Thursdays in Gammert Hall.  We’ll be gathering at 6:30 for a time of worship and community.

Sunday morning we’ll come together at 8:45 a.m. for worship in the sanctuary. This is Trinity Sunday so our time together will be full of praise to God.  We expect to have lovely pictures on the screen to enhance our service. In keeping with Memorial Day, there will be a time of prayer for those who’ve suffered the wounds that war brings to the human body and spirit.

Church of Peace is participating in the Food for Freedom drive in Fond du Lac, a project with the goal of collecting the most food for charitable purposes in one place at one time.  Our food will be weighed on Sunday after worship, so please bring in your items before then.

Two people from our church family are hospitalized.  Bev Schwersinske is a patient at Froedtert for a few days.  George Scott will be at Mayo’s in Minnesota for several weeks. If you want to send a card to George, his address is available in the church office.  Please pray for Bev and George to experience complete recovery after their procedures.  Please also pray for the family of Alvina Stahmann.  She died yesterday; Mrs. Stahmann’s husband Arthur died just two weeks ago.

The Sunday School season has ended.  We are so grateful to our staff who helped our little ones grow in faith over the past few months.  Our worship is always family-friendly so we expect to see children in church all summer long.

June’s Messenger will be available in the narthex and on-line (www.uccchurchofpeace.org) by noon tomorrow.

The church office will be closed on Monday.

That’s the news from Church of Peace!

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: Thank you, God, for the gentle touch of your hand upon my life today.  Slow me down enough to notice your presence and to feel your gift of peace.  Show me ways to share your love.  I pray that Bev Schwersinske and George Scott will experience your healing power in their lives and that the Stahmann family will know the comfort that only heaven can bring. Thank you, God.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 05-16-13

Greetings from Church of Peace!

RED!  That will be the color of the day on Sunday as we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost.  A mass choir of the Chapel Choir, SonShine Singers, and all the Sunday School children will sing.  Nine fine young men and women will be confirmed.  The sermon will be presented as a chancel drama.  There will be plenty of room for the whole church family as we celebrate together, so join us at 8:45.  What a glorious service it will be!

NEW Worship will begin at 6:30 this evening in the Upper Room of Gammert Hall.  We’ll be growing in faith together as we let a parable of Jesus inspire and direct our lives.

Please remember the family of Arthur Stahmann when you pray; his funeral was held yesterday.

Have you signed up for the Golden Fellowship trip to Holy Hill on Tuesday?  You can still do so (even if you aren’t “golden”) by calling the church office (921-8215) today or tomorrow.  The cost is $10.00 for the bus. Lunch is “Dutch treat.”

Our first softball game is Monday at Evans Field at 6:30 p.m.  Show up to sign up.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: It is easy to give thanks on such a beautiful day as today, O God. Please do not let my thoughts of gratitude be the only way I express my appreciation to you for all my blessings.  Instead, open the eyes of my heart to ways that I can thank you by helping others.  I pray for heavenly comfort to surround all who are sick or sad, especially the family of Arthur Stahmann. I pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 05-09-13

Greetings from Church of Peace,

Sunday is Mother’s Day – or, as we call it in church lingo, The Festival of the Christian Home.  We will give thanks for our mothers.  The Biblical part of the service will focus on the parables of Jesus; our confirmands and coaches will help us to find new meaning in these stories. The SonShine Singers will grace our service with a song. Join us at 8:45 for an inspirational time together.

Tonight’s NEW Worship will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Upper Room of Gammert Hall.  This is a casual, friendly service which will help you feel closer to God. Some folks come regularly; others participate only when they won’t be able to attend Sunday morning worship. Either way, you’ll be warmly welcomed.

We’ve had one person hospitalized: Delores Emmer.  Delores has moved to St. Francis Home.  Please remember her when you pray.  Please also pray for the family of Aileen Browitt.  Aileen’s funeral was held here yesterday.

Next Wednesday, May 15th, Church of Peace is hosting Loaves and Fishes.  We have plenty of help, but we need donations of food and money.  Please sign up on the bulletin board in the coatroom.  Thank you!

A hearty thanks to all who helped with the Ladies’ Aid Rummage Sale earlier this week.  Many neighborhood residents were able to clothe their families at low cost.  This is an outreach to our community as well as a way for the Ladies’ Aid to support important ministries of our church financially.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: What a glorious time is spring, O God. We thank you for the way our spirits soar at the new life around us.  Bless each one of us with spiritual renewal.  Help us to feel close to you. Show us how to find ways to care for people who need our help.  Please bless Delores Emmer as she regains strength and be with the family of Aileen Browitt as they give thanks for her life.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 05-02-13

Greetings from Church of Peace!

One of the hallmarks of the United Church of Christ is the “extravagant welcome” we extend to all.  This certainly was true of our congregation at the turkey dinner on Tuesday.  Our guests enjoyed a delicious meal and eager-to-please service.  Thanks to all who planned, worked, and ate.  It was a success in every way.

This Sunday’s worship service will be an invitation to let the healing power and love of God flow through us.  We will share in the sacrament of Holy Communion.  The Chapel Choir will provide special music.  Join us at 8:45 a.m. for a time of spiritual refreshment and renewal.

Tonight’s New Worship will also feature the sacrament of Holy Communion.  We will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Upper Room of Gammert Hall.

Today at 10:15 a.m. Pastor Jenny and Jeanette Hinn will be leading worship at All About Life Nursing Home.

Delores Emmer is a patient at St. Agnes Hospital.  Please remember her in prayer.

Saturday morning, grab a rake and come to church.  We’ll be gathering at 8:00 a.m. to get our church yard in tip-top shape for the spring and summer seasons.  Let’s make our gardens and lawn reflect our dedication to our church.

This Sunday and Monday we’ll be busy setting up for the Ladies’ Aid rummage sale which will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Bring your stuff in Sunday or Monday and stick around to help if you can.  We’ll also need baked goods for the ever-popular bake sale. Come back on Tuesday and shop!

Now is the time to sign up for the church softball team.  Anyone over age 16 is eligible.  Call the church office or sign up in the coatroom.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!

A prayer for today: I have so much for which to be thankful, O God of Bounteous Blessings. Show me how to express my thanks to you in kind words and compassionate actions toward others of your children. Bless Delores Emmer with a sense of your nearness and peace.  Amen.
