Greetings from Church of Peace 04-30-15

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Holy Communion, introduction of the confirmands, a helpful sermon, lots of friendly faces, uplifting music – you’ll experience these at Sunday’s worship service.  We’ll begin at 8:45 – join us!

Jim Mitchell remains hospitalized.  Please remember him in prayer.

The spring rummage sale is this coming Tuesday (8-4) and Wednesday (8-1).  That means we need donations of gently-used items to be dropped off Sunday afternoon or Monday.  Baked goods for the sale are also needed.  The Ladies’ Aid uses this money for all sorts of important projects in the church and community so please support our rummage sale.

Golden Fellowship invites you to a tour of the Cedar Lake Community Campus on Tuesday.  We’ll leave here at 9:00 and return about 3:00.  Lunch will be purchased at the Cedar Ridge Restaurant.  Please sign up on Sunday if you haven’t done so already.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: My soul rejoices in your love, O God.  Thank you for surrounding me with beauty and joy.  Please help me to notice the many blessings I experience from your hand each day.  I pray that you will bless Jim Mitchell and his family with your peace.  In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 04-23-15

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Join us Sunday for a time of spiritual refreshment.  The Scripture reading is a story of healing and bravery from the Book of Acts.  We’ll leave feeling healed and more courageous.

Jim Mitchell and Susan Oestreich are hospitalized.  Please hold them in prayer.

Next Tuesday is the Turkey Dinner.  It will be both fun and delicious!  Plan to attend and bring a friend.  Advance tickets are on sale in the church office and will be available in the narthex this Sunday.  All proceeds will be used in the Building to Serve Fund.

The Messenger will be on line (www.uccchurchofpeace.org) by tomorrow noon or you can pick one up on Sunday.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!

A prayer for today: Brrrr…..it’s a bit chilly today, O God.  Please don’t let my heart become a cold heart.  Warm me up with your light.  Show me how to fill the lives of others with joy and hope.  I pray that Jim Mitchell and Susan Oestreich and others who are sick will know your healing blessings in their lives.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 04-16-15

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Have you seen the crocuses?  How about daffodils popping their little yellow heads up out of the soil? It’s the perfect time of the year to celebrate the gift of God’s creation.  That will be the focus of this Sunday’s service – beautiful nature pictures, prayers for our planet, a sermon on creation care.  Join us at 8:45 a.m.

Susan Oestreich remains a patient in the hospital as does Jim Mitchell.  Please include them in your prayers.

This Saturday, Ray Beilke, Art Conklin, Deb Opperman, and we pastors will be attending the Northeast Wisconsin Association Conference meeting in Sheboygan on behalf of Church of Peace.

The Turkey Dinner will be held on Tuesday, April 28th.  Tickets are not only available at the church office but also will be on sale Sunday in the narthex.  You can sign up to volunteer or to bring pies. Thank you!

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: O God of spring and sunshine, I thank you for the beauty of this season.  Use it to remind me of your life-renewing power.  Open my life to your freshness.  I pray that Susan Oestreich and Jim Mitchell will continue to feel your healing touch in their lives.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 04/09/15

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Back in the Dark Ages, when life was very hard, people had little about which to smile.  In order to bring laughter into their lives, on the Sunday after Easter the priests would preach a sermon of jokes and funny stories.  They called this “Hilarity Sunday”.  Many churches observe this tradition even now and this coming Sunday Church of Peace will be among them.  Our sermon time will feature our favorite episode of the Andy Griffith show, “Opie the Birdman.”  Come see this meaningful episode on the big screen and realize for yourself how faith-filled the message is.  You’ll leave feeling spiritually renewed and emotionally refreshed.  Halleluia!

We have had three people in the hospital this week: Iris Abitz, Susan Oestreich, and Tom Strauss.  Please remember them when you pray. Please also remember William Mitchell who is in hospice care, nearing the end of his earthly journey, and the Puddy family; Tim’s funeral was yesterday.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today:  Give me, O God, many reasons to smile today.  Renew my weary spirit as you are renewing the earth this springtime.  Fill me with hope.  I pray for all who are sick or sad, especially Iris Abitz, Susan Oestreich, Tom Strauss, William Mitchell, and the family of Tim Puddy. In the name of the Risen Christ I pray.  Amen.

Maundy Thursday Greetings

Greetings from Church of Peace on this Maundy Thursday,

We gather at 7:00 p.m. tonight for a worship service featuring the costumed commemoration of the Last Supper, acted out by 17 people from our congregation.  Pew communion will be served.

Tomorrow is Good Friday.  Join us at 7:00 for this solemn service of remembering the last day of Jesus’ life.  The service will be deeply inspiring without being over-sentimental or gory.

Easter Sunday services are at 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. with the Chapel Choir and the Sunday School children singing at each one. The sanctuary will be festive, the songs uplifting, the sermon strengthening.  Join us for this joyful hour!

Saturday morning the youth will be gathering at 9:00 a.m. to decorate and bake for the Alleluia! Social Hour between services on Easter.  Love to bake and nobody to eat it?  We’d be delighted to have your creations to share with the congregation on Easter.

Susan Oestreich is in the hospital in Madison. Jim Mitchell and Carol Dehnel have transferred to care centers. Tim Puddy is in hospice care at home.  Please remember them when you pray.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: On this Maundy Thursday, O God, I pray that Christians everywhere will learn from Jesus’ example of servanthood and faithfulness.  Bless us all as we worship together over the coming days. Strengthen your church to serve you well.  I pray that your healing power will be with all who are sick or sad, especially Susan Oestreich, Jim Mitchell, Carol Dehnel, and Tim Puddy. May all of us know the triumph of Easter. Amen.
