Greetings from Church of Peace August 1, 2013

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Our greetings are a day early this week because our internet service will be down on Thursday morning.

We’re back from a delightful vacation and are eager to see our church family again.  Join us tomorrow (Thursday) night at 6:30 for NEW worship (in the youth room) and/or Sunday at 8:45 a.m. for the service in the sanctuary.  Holy Communion will be shared at each service.

Have you signed your children/grandchildren up for the Church Family Day Camp?  It will be held on Wednesday, August 14th at Pilgrim Center.  The cost of $10.00 per family includes the bus ride, lunch, and supper.  Each child can bring one friend (the friend is $5.00).  Just reply to this email if you want to sign up a child and/or yourself.  We’ll get the permission slip to you in plenty of time.

We’re hosting Loaves and Fishes on Wednesday, August 21st.  We need volunteers to help cook, serve, and clean up.  We also need donations of food and money.

Looking ahead:
          Wednesday, August 14th      Day Camp
Friday, August 23rd              German Choir Concert
Monday, September 2nd        Great America Trip
Sunday, September 8th         Sunday School Begins
Saturday, September 21st       Day Trip to Chicago
          Fri.-Sat., September 27-28,   Confirmation Retreat

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church! Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: What a relief it is, O God, to know that you walk with me through this day!  I need your wisdom and strength as I face decisions, large and small.  Thank you for guiding me.  Show me ways to be a more faithful disciple with each passing day.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 07-11-13

Greetings from Church of Peace!

On this lovely summer day, we pray that your spirit is as sunshiny as the sky!

Sunday’s worship service will focus on the story from the Gospel of John of the woman caught in adultery.  “Let the one who is without sin throw the first stone,” Jesus said.  Gorgeous photographs on the big screen will enhance the meaning of the hymn lyrics.  Join us at 8:45 a.m.

Tonight we’ll meet in the Youth Room for NEW Worship at 6:30.  This conversational-style worship time will bring us closer to God and to one another.  This service can be a substitute for -- or an addition to -- the Sunday worship service.

We know of no one who is hospitalized.  We extend our Christian sympathy to Shari Schultz whose father died late last week.

The two of us cheered on the Church of Peace softball team last Monday evening and had a great time. Why not attend this coming Monday?  They play at 8:00 p.m. at Shirlee Cutler Field on Oven Island.

Sign-up sheets for the All Church Day Camp at Pilgrim Center on August 14th and for the day at Great America on September 2nd are available in the church office.

A prayer for today: O God of sunshine, illumine my spirit so I can shine with your compassionate light. How I long to be a faithful disciple who feels close to you and is able to be a source of hope to others. Send your healing power to strengthen not only those who struggle with illness but also those who grieve, especially Shari Schultz and her family.  I pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 07-03-13

Greetings from Church of Peace!

“America the Beautiful” – we’ll be singing this song on Sunday and also praying a prayer for our nation. Holy Communion will be celebrated. There will be a prayer journey. The Bible story for the service has some every surprising – and inspiring – heroes. Join us at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday. You’ll be glad you did.

There will be no NEW Worship tomorrow night because it is a national holiday.

We know of two people who are hospitalized: Jim Mitchell in Fond du Lac and Lola Shady in Madison.  Please pray that they will experience God’s comforting presence as they heal from surgery.

The July Messenger is now available in the narthex at the church and on line (www.uccchurchofpeace.org).

If you want to attend the TimberRattlers game with the United Church of Christ Northeast Association on July 13th, you can call Jackie for a link to sign up.  It is a fun time for all ages.

Here are some additional opportunities to enjoy the company of your church family:
This Monday: Church League softball at Cutler Field
August 14 all day: Family Day Camp at Pilgrim Center
September 2 all day: COP trip to Six Flags Great America

A prayer for today: O God, I am grateful that you have given me life in this country where I am able to worship you in safety.  I pray that you will bless our whole nation with a stronger moral sense and a deeper concern for those in need. Show me how to be a good disciple of Jesus and a good citizen at the same time.  I pray that your healing light will shine within Jim Mitchell and Lola Shady and upon all who are sick or sad.  I pray these things in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
