Greetings from Church of Peace 11-29-12

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Advent begins on Sunday.  The candle of hope will be lit and the Chapel Choir will sing. Join us at 8:45 for the service which will include Holy Communion.

Tonight at 6:30 our NEW worship will include Holy Communion and the lighting of the candle of hope.

Linda Schimmel is a patient at Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh. Please remember her in your prayers. We offer our Christian condolences to all from our church family who have lost loved ones in the recent past, especially Jeanette Hinn whose husband Bill died on Sunday.

Mark your calendars: Church of Peace Christmas caroling on Sunday December
23rd from 5:00 - 8:00. We'll eat pizza and then take a bus around town to sing for some of our folks who'll appreciate the extra cheer. What a fitting way to prepare your heart for the birth of Jesus.

That's the news from Church of Peace.

We'll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: O God of gentleness and strength, as I approach this Advent season, may I grow in patience and compassion. Show me how to become more hopeful so that I can serve you with enthusiasm.  Bless Linda Schimmel with
healing; touch those with grieving hearts with your comfort, especially Jeanette Hinn.  I pray these things in Jesus' name.  Amen.

Thanksgiving Eve

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Happy Day-Before-Thanksgiving! Come tonight at 7:00 p.m. for a worship service designed to help us express our gratitude for all of our blessings.  The sanctuary will be lovely, the message heart-warming, and the Spirit present with us.  Plus the Worship Enhancement Team has prepared a gift for each worshipper.

There will be no NEW worship this Thursday because it is Thanksgiving Day.  We’ll resume next Thursday.

On Saturday at 9:00, the Council could use some help.  We have some yard work to finish up before winter strikes.  Could you come and work for a while?  Please bring a rake.

Sunday’s service will be a joyful celebration of the love and forgiveness offered by our compassionate God.  The Chapel Choir will sing.  We’ll gather at 8:45.

A member of our church family has died.  Robert Warner’s service will be held on Friday. Please pray that God’s comfort will be with his family.

Watch your mailbox for a copy of the proposed revisions to the Constitution of Church of Peace.  There will be a meeting on December 16th to vote on the proposed changes.

The December newsletter will be available in the narthex on Sunday and on the website later today.  While you are on the website (www.uccchurchofpeace.org), check out the newly-enhanced picture section.  Thanks to Halie Hackbarth for bringing this up-to-date.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church.  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: I have so much to be grateful for, O Generous One.  Thank you.  Bless all who gather tomorrow; turn their hearts toward you.  Please be with the family of Robert Warner as they mourn his death. May the spirit of gratitude remain in my heart not just during this holiday but always.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace November 15, 2012

Greetings from Church of Peace!

If you like children, you’ll love Sunday’s service.  The youngest Sunday School classes will sing and little Audyn Zupke will be baptized.  Our Scripture reading is about the end times (should we believe the Mayan calendar?). Be a part of a service that is not only full of joy but faith-building as well.

Tonight’s NEW worship will also focus on Jesus’ words about catastrophic events and the end of history.  Join us at 6:30 for this casual style worship that brings us closer to God.

Ken Thome is a patient at Froedtert Hospital and is expected to return home late this week.  Please pray that his return to health and strength will be swift and complete.

A week from today is Thanksgiving.  The evening before, on Wednesday, November 21st, we will be gathering at 7:00 p.m. to acknowledge God’s generosity in our lives. The service will feature Holy Communion as well as lovely slides on the screen.  Don’t miss this opportunity to fill your heart with gratitude and to express your thanks.

The Church Council has been busy revising the Church of Peace Constitution.  Watch your mailbox for a copy of the proposed revised document.  There will be a congregational meeting on Sunday, December 16th, to vote on the proposed changes.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: Use me today, O God.  Use me to bring cheer, to convey encouragement, to be an agent of goodness in the world.  Let your light shine through me.  Fill me with your peace as I face any challenges. I pray that your healing love will bring Ken Thome to health and strength soon and that all your children will have warm shelter on this chilly day.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 11/08/12

Greetings from Church of Peace!

God keeps promises.  God is utterly dependable.  On these truths our lives and faith depend.  What about us?  Do we keep our promises to God? Can God depend on us? Join us Sunday for our Consecration Sunday worship celebration.  The Rev. Dr. Gary Miller will preach.  The Youth Choir will sing.  Each of us will have an opportunity to recommit ourselves to the service of Christ. Worship will begin at 8:45 a.m. and will be followed by an enhanced social hour hosted by the Stewardship Ministry Team.

Tonight’s NEW worship service will begin at 6:30.  In a casual, conversational setting we will celebrate God’s presence and renew our commitment to discipleship.

Donna Trapp is a patient at St. Agnes Hospital.  Please hold Donna in prayer.

Next Tuesday Golden Fellowship will feature a European River Boat Tour, presented by Dianna and David Candlish.  Escape from the burdens of your daily life and let their slides and words carry you to the lovely lands across the sea.  We’ll begin at 11:00.  Lunch will be served.

Looking ahead:  Thanksgiving Eve’s worship service will feature Holy Communion, a story sermon, images on the big screen, and a delightful surprise from the Worship Enhancement Team.  Plan now to take time to express your gratefulness to our very generous God at 7:00 on Wednesday, November 21st.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: O Divine Promise-Keeper, how grateful I am for your presence in my life.  Open my heart to your love, my mind to your wisdom, my soul to your peace.  As I go about my day, constantly remind me that I represent Christ to the world.  I pray that Donna Trapp will experience your healing power in her life.  Offering myself to you as your servant, I pray in Christ’s name.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace - All Saints' Day 2012

Greetings from Church of Peace!

It is All Saints’ Day, a day when we pause to give thanks for those Christians who have gone before us, living lives of faith and service.  What people in your life have been shining stars for your faith, beacons leading you to be a more devoted disciple of Jesus?  Give thanks for those people today.

On Sunday, the sermon will be a chancel drama. We will pause to remember the members of our congregation who have died in the past year.  The Chapel Choir will sing.  It will be a poignant and sparking service.

Tonight at 6:30 p.m. our NEW worship will feature a lively conversation about matters of day-to-day faithful living.  Come join in this relaxed and meaningful service.

Peggy Lee is a patient at St. Agnes Hospital.  Please pray for God’s healing light to shine upon her.

It is our turn to serve Loaves and Fishes next Wednesday.  We can always use donations of food, money, and time.  Thank you!

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: God of hope, I pray that you will remind me of the importance of all I do today.  Show me how to reflect your compassionate goodness in my every word and deed.  Use me to share your light of love in this world. Please bless Peggy Lee with a sense of your nearness and healing power.  I pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace - October 18, 2012

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Fond du Lac Police Chief William Lamb will be with us in worship on Sunday to share a Mission Moment.  The service draws its focus from Psalm 91, a Biblical song rich in advice on how to handle fear and danger.   The Chapel Choir will sing an anthem based on the 23rd Psalm.  Join us for an hour of worship which will ease our fears and build our faith.

Tonight’s NEW Thursday night worship service will begin at 6:30 in the Upper Room.  We will be talking about trusting God in times of peril or anxiety.

Mary Lange is now recuperating at St. Francis Home.  Please pray that she will have a speedy and full recovery.

John Langolf died last Saturday.  His funeral was yesterday. Remember his family when you pray.

It is bazaar week! Set up begins Saturday at 8:00, continues after Sunday School, and will be going on all day Monday.  Bring your “goodies” to the church Sunday or Monday and plan to come back on Tuesday to help, shop, and eat. With everyone’s support, we can make this the best bazaar ever!

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: On this chilly and blustery day, I thank you for the warm place in which I live and the warm feeling in my soul that comes from thinking of you.  Show me how to best serve you today.  I pray for Mary Lange and for the family of John Langolf.  And I ask that you bless our bazaar so Church of Peace may serve as a gracious host and as a good example of Christian hospitality while we raise money to support your work near and far.  Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace

Greetings from Church of Peace,

“How beautiful!”  “It is gorgeous.”  This is what you will say when you enter the sanctuary on Sunday and see our altar adorned for Harvest Home Sunday. Fruits, vegetables and other produce will combine to proclaim God’s generous abundance. Join us at 8:45 a.m. Sunday for this festival of blessings. The youth choir will sing.

If you have produce, fall flowers, or home-canned goods to contribute to the Harvest Home display, please bring them to the church before Saturday morning. Write your name on them so you can have them back!

NEW Worship is tonight at 6:30 p.m.  We will gather to worship and learn together about the seeds which God sows in our hearts and lives.  We meet in the Upper Room.

Mary Lange is still hospitalized in Madison and expects to return to Fond du Lac soon for long-term rehab. Del Luttenberger died Tuesday evening. Please remember Mary Lange and the Luttenberger family when you pray.

HELP! The building committee wants to spruce up the narthex/lobby area before the bazaar.  They will be painting this Saturday morning beginning at 8:00. Can you help?  Even a couple of hours of your time would be a significant gift to the church.  Thank you!

Sunday afternoon is the CROP Walk.  We meet at 12:45 on Oven Island at Lakeside Park.  The walk will take about an hour.  It helps the hungry here and far away.  Sign-up sheets are available at the church.

There will be a hayride for the confirmands and senior highs this Sunday night.  Meet at the church at 5:45 to ride together to Milton Scott’s farm.  What fun you will have! The cost is $3.00.  You can bring a friend.  Permission slips are required for everyone.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: Your heart is so beautiful, O God, to create all the loveliness which I see this autumn season.  Your heart is so generous, dear Lord, to share all of the abundant bounty which I receive.  Bless me as I try to show my gratitude by the way that I live today. Mary Lange and the Luttenberger family are in need of your healing touch; I know that you are with them in this difficult time. Thank you!  I pray these things with deep love and with gratitude.  Amen.
