Lenten Greetings from Church of Peace 02-17-2016

Greetings from Church of Peace on this Lenten Wednesday!

Tonight we gather in the lovely quietness of our sanctuary to meet God in the singing of hymns, reading of Scripture, and the lighting of the Lenten candles. Our sermon comes to us from Mayberry, North Carolina as Andy Griffith and the gang wrestle with humility.  Join us at 7:00 p.m. for this inspiring service.

Sunday’s service centers on Psalm 27, a song of faith for both good times and difficult ones.  The children of our Sunday School will sing. Little Evelyn Sue Schmitz will be baptized. The church officers will be blessed. The service will begin at 8:45 a.m.

Sunday is also the first day of the Council’s pre-sale of the demotion rummage for church members only.  The sale will begin after worship and last until 11:15. Peruse our huge collection of “stuff” and put a bid on things that interest you. Details of the sale will be available in Sunday’s bulletin.

We need teams of two people to help our little ones cross Military Avenue on their way to the YMCA for Sunday School.  We have the orange vests and the stop signs.  All we need is the volunteers.  Please call the church office if you’d be willing to help on occasional Sundays.

A reminder: the church offices are now located in the Upper Room of Gammert Hall.  Please use the Ruggles Street entrance (elevator door) during weekdays.  The other doors will be open at worship times.

We’ll see you in church.  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: Kind and wise God, I know that you are with me today.  Make me keenly aware of your presence.  Show me opportunities to serve you by serving others.  Grant me joy and peace in my life.  Amen.

Ash Wednesday Greetings 02/10/16

Greetings from Church of Peace on this Ash Wednesday!

Our Ash Wednesday service begins tonight at 7:00.  It will feature Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes for those who desire them. Confirmands will light the Lenten candle of Introspection. Come begin your Lenten season with us!

Sunday is Valentine’s Day. We’ll honor those in our church family who have been married a long time with a rose or carnation. The sermon will be in “Faith on the Line” format on the topic of Christian marriage and relationships.  It will be a “lovely” service.  Join us at 8:45 a.m.

Don’t forget your items for the Souper Bowl of Caring which is being held through this Sunday.  Our goal is 1000 items of non-perishable food, toiletries, and household supplies.  We hope to fill up our newly-moved food pantry, now located in Gammert Hall.

This Saturday, we will be moving the church offices into the Upper Room of Gammert Hall for the duration of the construction process.  Jackie and the pastors will come down to the main floor to greet and talk with you if the steps to the Upper Room are difficult for you.

Are you interested in looking at and perhaps purchasing items which are no longer used by the congregation and need a new home?  There will be a special presale for Church of Peace members on Sundays, February 21st and 28th right after worship until 11:15.  Bids may be placed on items in which you are interested.  Details of this pre-sale will be available on Sundays in the bulletins.

That’s the news from Church of Peace.

We’ll see you in church!  Pastors Jenny and Jim

A prayer for today: As I enter this Lenten season, O God, I pray for the courage to examine my life honestly.  Show me how to live more faithfully in the ways of Jesus. Amen.

Greetings from Church of Peace 02-04-16

Greetings from Church of Peace!

Feel like your life’s out of balance? This week’s Scripture stories are insightful for us as we try to establish a healthy pace for living. Come on Sunday to be illuminated! We will celebrate Holy Communion.

Following the service there will be a congregational meeting to vote on the plans for the new addition.  In the past few days, some adaptations have been made (an additional bathroom added, for example) at the request of the congregation. To fulfill zoning regulations, a few other changes have been necessary.  Members of the Building Committee will be available before worship in the narthex to show you the new drawings.

Sunday School convenes this week at the YMCA. If your child attends worship, adults will be available to walk them safely to class.  If you drop them off, please drop them at the Y’s front (west) door. If you’d like to wait for your child, you are welcomed to wait in the Y’s lobby.  When class is over at 11:00, you can pick up your child at the front door of the Y.
Saturday we will be moving the food pantry into Gammert Hall and preparing the Upper Room to become the church offices during the remodel.  If you can help, come to the church at 8:00 a.m. And bring a friend!

Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday.  Come to have your faith renewed as we begin our Lenten journey. The service will start at 7:00 p.m. Holy Communion will be celebrated.

A prayer for today: I pray for patience and wisdom today, so that I may treat others the way you treat me.  I pray for a kind heart and a generous spirit so that I may reflect your goodness. Help me to live in your image.  Amen.
